We certainly had some excellent speaker s last month – on a varied range of topics – and a very interesting visit to Bachelor. Professor Campbell’s explanations about the earth's warming, for example, got everyone interested. He's off to work in Julie Bishop's office in Canberra but I asked him to come back next year to give us a progress report on where the world is heading.

August will be a busy month with so much on offer on the Seniors’ Month Calendar. We need for you to book for our trip on 25 August by 9 August. 10 non - members are on the waiting list at the moment , but we are giving members time to get their booking done. I think it will be a good tour, and thank you to Gayle who has done so much work on it. You can call Gayle on 8985 5406 to reserve a place and then pay using either the form from the Treasurer or the one in th is Newsletter on page 8.

We have no meeting on 4 August as we are going to the Shoal Bay Recycling D epot. This is a follow - up to the talk Sandrine Ricardo gave last February and will give us the chance to see the practical side of what we heard then. The trip costs $5 and leaves at 9.30 am. Forms are available from the Treasurer.

I must acknowledge the contribution we received from the NT Government of $1000.00 t owards the costs of our Seniors’ Month activity. With out this benefit we would not be able to offer activities such as this one as the cost would be too expensive. We are pleased to be able to offer seniors , who don't always have the opportunity to get out, a trip outside Darwin. I hope we all have a good time.

We have a number of badges for new members that have not been picked up. We will post them this month but that will cost $2 each. In future please come to any meeting and collect your badge from the Treasurer.

It's time for my annual trip to visit my family in the USA . I leave on 15 August and return to Darwin on 21 November. I shall send an article from my new home as my family has moved s tates, from New York to Massachusetts, so I'll be finding new things to do there. I'm sure my granddaughters will be very pleas ed to show me around. I’m in for a great time I'm sure.

To those of you who are sick either at home or in hospital, I hope you will be well again soon and back to one of our meetings .

Keep coming to the meetings as we have good speakers lined up.
